A Brief History of the
'Little Red Store'
Established in 1901 by
Adolph Stuber, the Linwood Market was originally a combination
bakery and general store. Within just a few years, "Stuber's"
became a landmark in the community, serving most of the grocery
needs of the people in the Linwood area.
Adolph Stuber operated the business until 1937, the year he turned
the business over to his daughter, Elsie. In an age not known for
female entrepreneurs, Elsie proved to be a remarkable woman. She
managed the grocery, gasoline, and oil business until the 1950's.
In the decades to follow, several owners would run the
business - the Struse Brothers in 1958, Hank and Stella Miduski in
1960, Frank and Ann Byron in 1972, John and Michelle Andrews in
1997, and the Albano & Sawer Family in 2003.
In February of 2006 the market was purchased by the Cohen family,
pictured above, and they endeavor to make it a very special place
again - a place of warmth and friendliness is the order of the day,
with an atmosphere of genuine care for their customers that is
accomplished by a deep regard for the integrity of the old "Little
Red Store," as it was fondly called. They contribute
significantly to that quality which makes Linwood different from
the communities around it. Come in and see for
yourself!
